Your bedroom is supposed to be a sanctuary where you feel safe and comfortable. But, when your bedroom isn’t furnished or set up properly, it might instead feel a little “meh.” While there isn’t anything inherently wrong with a “meh” bedroom, wouldn’t you much rather create a sanctuary and safe haven where you can go to unwind and catch a few Zs? In today’s home furniture blog at Nice Furniture in Houston, we’re providing you with helpful tips for furnishing and creating the ideal bedroom for you. Keep reading to learn more or stop by either of our two Nice Furniture locations (Houston and Humble) today to check out our home furniture selection for yourself!
Mattress Size
One of the first and most impactful pieces of home furniture you should invest in for your bedroom is a proper-sized mattress. If you sleep solo, a queen-sized mattress should do you just fine. It’ll have plenty of space for you to sprawl out and get comfortable, no matter how askew your sleep position is. However, if you sleep with a partner, a queen may no longer be the best option. If you and your partner are sharing a queen-sized bed and are perfectly content, more power to you! But we find that in most cases, partners greatly prefer a king-sized bed so that they both have the adequate space they need for a restful night’s sleep. No more getting woken up with an “accidental” hit in the face!
Dressers
The next tip our team at Nice Furniture in Houston has for furnishing your bedroom is to find the right dresser. When choosing the right dresser, there are a few things you should consider. You’ll want to make sure the orientation complements your space. A taller, thinner dresser may be ideal if you are putting it on a taller, thinner wall. Or conversely, if your dresser is being placed on a longer wall, a shorter, wider dresser may be a more appropriate home furniture selection.
Additionally, you’ll want to consider the function and aesthetics. Is it well-made? Do you like it? Does it match the rest of your bedroom home furniture? These are all great questions to ask yourself when looking for a dresser. You should also make sure that the dresser you select will meet your needs. While a certain dresser may look “cute as a button”, it won’t matter if it can’t hold all the clothing you need it to!
Seating
While seating home furniture in your bedroom is optional and could be considered a luxury, seating is well worth it if you have space in your bedroom. The bedroom is where you get ready for your day. And, sometimes it’s nice to be able to take a seat for whatever reasons — putting on your shoes, mentally preparing yourself for the day, whatever it may be. Having a chair or at the very least a nice bench or stool at the foot of your bed can be a welcome touch that makes a world of difference in your daily routine. When your bedroom is missing that little something, try adding home furniture like seating. It could just be the piece it was missing all along.
Vanities/Mirrors
Speaking of the bedroom being the place you get ready for the day, seating isn’t the only home furniture that can improve your routine. Vanities and mirrors are perfect for confirming that you look your best. Sure, you could always go into the bathroom and have a look in the mirror. But, in most cases, that mirror isn’t full-length and the lighting probably isn’t ideal. Having a nice mirror and vanity in your bedroom to help you get ready in the morning or unwind in the evening can make for a fantastic addition to your bedroom home furniture setup.
Storage
We can’t speak for everyone, but at Nice Furniture in Houston, we personally can’t stand cluttered spaces. We very much like for things to be tidy and for everything to have its own space. That’s why our next tip for furnishing your bedroom is to ensure that you have plenty of storage options. Chests and armoires can act as stunning decorative pieces and give you a place to stow away items. But you don’t necessarily need a chest or armoires to store things. In some cases, having a high enough bed can provide you plenty of space to tuck away and tidy up the clutter in your bedroom.
Duvets and Accessories
Our last home furniture tip for today is: accessorize! The best way to feel comfortable in your own bedroom is to make it feel like your own bedroom. This will be different from person to person, but it’s important to find duvets, picture frames, paint colors, knick-knacks, and anything else you love within the walls of your bedroom. There’s a huge difference between a room with white walls and a bed with a single-color comforter and a bedroom that is teaming with color and character from custom duvets, decorations, and accessories. Be sure to make your bedroom your own with decorative home furniture and accessories.
